This study assumes your friend is ready to accept the words of the Bible as true. If your friend does not believe in the reliability of the Scriptures, it would be prudent to go through some apologetics studies first.
One of the most well known passages of the Bible claims, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). But what does it mean to believe in Him? What information do we need to know to truly believe? And is it enough to have mental ascent to those facts?
